Altar Project: Genneia Offsets the Carbon Footprint of Aldebaran Resources

News
Genneia, the country's leading renewable energy company, is partnering with Aldebaran Resources Inc., a mineral exploration company, to offset its carbon emissions generated in Argentina through the issuance of 848 Verified Carbon Units (VCUs).

The certificates were acquired to offset the carbon footprint generated by two of Aldebaran Resources Inc.'s operational centers. Regarding the headquarters located in San Juan Capital, the emissions corresponding to scopes 1 and 2 for the year 2021 were neutralized. This means offsetting both direct emissions from operations and indirect emissions associated with electricity consumption.

Additionally, scope 1 emissions generated during 2021 for the Altar-Río Cenicero Project, located 170 km west of the town of Barreal in the Calingasta Department, province of San Juan, were also offset.

"We are proud of the work done with Aldebaran Resources Inc. in the process of offsetting the carbon footprint of its operations and the significant project they are advancing in San Juan. At Genneia, we continue to reinforce our strong commitment to decarbonizing the industry, thereby promoting the fight against climate change," said Gustavo Anbinder, Business & Development Director at Genneia.

This initiative developed by the company seeks not only to improve its projects by ensuring a triple impact across all its processes but also to encourage each industry to reduce and offset its emissions of harmful gases into the atmosphere, supporting the transition to cleaner energy.

The certification and issuance of carbon credits are an international mechanism for pollution reduction, aimed at decreasing and/or removing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. They were established in 2005 under the Kyoto Protocol, as one of the three key measures to reduce GHG emission levels, and are currently promoted by the Paris Agreement (2016), with annual reinforcement during the Conferences of the Parties (COP) on Climate Change.
