Salta: Mansfield and Secco sign agreement to incorporate solar energy at Lindero Gold Mine

News
The project involves adding a photovoltaic system and a lithium-ion battery bank to the existing thermal power plant, whose storage will optimize the generation of clean energy.

By Panorama Minero

This is the first hybrid project in the Salta Puna, which provides a reliable and efficient solution through the generation of clean energy. The Ministry of Mining and Energy, through Resolution 10/23, approved the most important environmental and social document: the Environmental Impact Report, thus authorizing construction.

Through the agreement with Mansfield Minera S.A., Secco will develop a cutting-edge project that will make the current power generation plant at Mina Lindero hybrid, located 420 km from the city of Salta.

The solar park will have a total capacity of 6.55 MWp and an energy storage system by Lithium-Ion batteries with a capacity of 11.7 MWh, suitable for operation at an altitude of 3,800 meters above sea level.

In this way, the photovoltaic system will provide energy to the isolated system of the mining project during the day, storing the excess in the batteries in order to generate a reserve that allows its use when the demand of the process requires it, optimizing the use of renewable energy and providing reliability to the system.

Through these technological developments, renewable energy will be incorporated into the thermal power plant that until now supplied all the energy required by Mansfield, in order to radically reduce its CO2 emissions.

It is worth noting that SECCO is an Argentine company with more than 80 years of experience in the industry, operating both nationally and internationally, with more than 1,500 MW of power generation and 225,000 HP in gas compression, installed in 200 plants and power plants.

Through the services it provides in every corner of the country with more than 2,000 collaborators, it is committed to sustainable energy generation working with the latest technology in solar, hybrid, cogeneration, and biogas utilization projects of different origins (landfill, sewage, or animal waste).

They have also been pioneers in energy storage solutions, always aiming to offer tailor-made responses to each client. On the other hand, Mansfield Minera SA, an Argentine company (subsidiary of the Canadian Fortuna Silver Mines), dedicated to the exploration and development of mining projects in the Province of Salta for more than 25 years, reaffirms its commitment to sustained growth through this new strategic alliance with Secco, a leading company in power generation specializing in the supply and provision of electrical energy in mining projects, among others.

The current project represents another important contribution to sustainable mining and contributes to the sustainable development of the communities and areas near the operation of Mina Lindero, promoting the protection and care of the environment.
